Reflecting on 2012 and I dont think I did too shabby! Well except for not coming on here that much.

Lets see – Did pretty good on the exercise path until about May, had a few minor set backs and was hit n miss due to my body being a complete spaz, but did what I could when I could. The important thing is I kept moving. walking, hittin the treadmill when I could.  Hmm Food- well in June I went back to eating Ice Cream. no remorse there, at least I didnt wallow in the vat to the point of no return, its all about moderation (something I learned this year). Tried to eat like crap a few times only to suffer the consequence of food hangover. Realized that my crap eating is still better than how I use to eat. I never quit paying attention to ingredients and made sure there wasnt a lot of crap in the what I considered crap food. LOL

Discovered a new found love of certain Beers and Ciders – who knew?  wait is that good for you? – oh wait who cares they are good!

I’m not really a resolution person, never have been. I joke that my resolution is to not make any. But I do set goals for myself and revisit them every so often to see if I need to adjust or make them bigger.

My outlook for 2013 is positive  – I am repeating a goal I did not make in 2012 and that is to run a 5K, I walked 2 in 2012.

Gotta make sure I keep my body moving.

Eating right for me.

Keeping a positive, fun loving group of friends. Its amazing how if you have the wrong friends, for the life you want, will continually drag you down. But when you have friends in your life that hold similar thoughts and goals in life, life is much happier and you are much more successful in what you want to achieve.

This year I am going to try to blog more, not a daily food journal but about Food, Life, Health and Taking Care of Self.

Looking forward to things to come and gotta reset my dream board!

Where did the time go?

Wow it is almost Sept, crazy. I lost track of time, checking my blog I noticed the last time I blogged was in June. So much had happened. Most importantly so much good food has been consumed. Hopefully in the next day or so I will post some pics.

Some highlights of the summer; I have been trying different brands of ice cream and realized us do get what ya pay for as far as ingredients go. I had a southern BBQ and realized that when you are not use to eating fried food, it may taste good, but you will pay for it. My poor stomach, not to mention my face broke out from frying food.
I started a new project with a friend, another blog called Monkeys Do. which is about taking recipes and seeing if we can recreate them and tweak them a little to accommodate our dietary needs. Super excited about some of te ideas we have in store for that project.

Sadly my health hasn’t been the best over the summer, so training had to take a back seat for a bit, wow the low you feel from not exercising. However, I was still able to walk the Color Run, which was a blast and I will do it again next year, my goal is to run it this time.
But I am getting back into the groove, with walking and bike riding.

Summer is coming to an end and with that goes my ice cream habit. Not to say its off my menu, more like I’ll have it once in a blue moon.
Back in the game of eating right and gettin my exercise groove on!

Tell next time, keep eatin the good stuff!

Gone but not forgotten…

I had to take a little break from blogging, life happens and sometimes ya gotta put somethings on hold.

A lot of good things have happen in the last couple months. I may or may not have mentioned I am an esthetician (I do facials and waxing) I not only see clients out of my home, but now I am also working out of a day spa and teach a couple of classes a month. Good stuff, but with change comes trying to reconfigure time management, so I have decided to start blogging weekly instead of daily.

A little catching up – I have stayed on track with my food, still at 1600 calories. This has become so much easier than I thought, once you get use to size and portions it makes like so much easier to know what to eat. I will say I have been spoiled the last year, not having a time clock to punch, I could focus on when and what to eat. Now I actually have set schedules and am learning, yet again, when to eat and how some of the snack that were satisfying before, not so much anymore. So instead of apples and peanut butter, I am looking at hummus and veggies to sustain me til lunch.

Some goals I have accomplished – Im not sure about weight loss – but I do know I have lost inches since Feb I believe I have lost a total of 4 inches, may not sound like a lot to you, but it is for me – everybody is different and I will take it! Especially considering I have slacked on the exercise department the last month. Ok I have more than slacked it was non- existent. I started back training about 2 weeks ago, sadly on my second day of training my back decided to have a spasm. Well I thought it was a spasm, instead it was a bulging disc that got irritated.(re-occurring injury) I have been down for a week, but finally it is starting to heal. Time to move forward and restart with some core strengthening.

On to the Future – I have registered for the Color Run, I am aiming to run at least half of it. Sounds like fun and what the heck, get covered in color while I run!

Off to a good start! – Lot of good food so far this year. Had fun making homemade nachos with some friends and she made some amazing cheese. If I remember correctly it had : Corn starch, Habanero cheese, Sharp cheddar and condensed milk.  the Habanero gave it just the right amount of kick!

I got a new BBQ at the beginning of May, my hubby bought me one that has both gas and charcoal. I love it! Makes it nice during the week when we want quick grilling and on the weekend when I have lots of time to wait for the charcoals to get warm.  He is the best hubby!

I look forward to the summer and the fun stuff to whip up in the kitchen!

There is nothing like sharing good food with good friends and the laughter that follows!

Happy eating!

BBQ Season is here!

Oh how I do love to BBQ!

I will find any excuse to start up the grill. This weekend was the perfect excuse, warm weather and working hard in the back yard. I decided to experiment with fish, Salmon to be specific.  Off to Sur La Table, since it is located right next to Whole Foods. I picked up a BBQ Plank. I have only tried the cedar wraps and they were very nice, but I wanted to try something new.  The nice salesman was happy to talk about the planks and how to use them and what food goes with what, I chose an Alder. Never had it and figured it cant be bad.

I simply used salt, pepper and lime to season the Salmon. I had fun with the rest of the food, we had stuffed Ricotta stuffed Portabella mushrooms, Wasabi potatoes and steamed veggies.

I am truly looking forward to the summer and BBQ’s to be had with friends!

Garden and food – match made in heaven

ooh how I love spring, not only is the weather nice but it means I get to play in the garden!  Today I took myself on a trip to the Nursery and shopped til I was happy with my finds!  bought a few flowers that I have never owned, one looks like a small orchid. so cute! Now I hope everyone survives!  I was hoping to do veggies, but that hasn’t happen yet, I may still do some – waiting to see which tree my neighbor is going to take down, so I know how much sun I am going to have. But I think I have enough projects to keep me busy!

Spring is also when I start dusting off the BBQ and grilling some goodies! mmm.. I will try just about anything on the grill, last year I was into grilling fruit. Had some amazing results and a few duds, either way it was fun. This year I really want to get a Himalayan Salt Slab to play with, it looks like fun. So many ways to use it.

Workout – ahh yes my workout – I thought for sure I would not be able to move my arms today after my Wednesday workout, I was surprised when I woke up and was able to stretch. Maybe Friday things will be sore. All sorts of weights and arm exercises were done on Wednesday as well as squats.

Emotional Connections…

I recently cleaned out my closet and felt so much lighter. Even though I had less clothes and had to part with some of my favorites, they were just to big for me and no longer looked flattering. What a happy day.  But for some it is a huge struggle to let go of the clothes that no longer fit..  I am personally guilty of this, I had clothes in my closet that I had kept that were to small, you know for that day when I would lose weight and fit in them. Thankfully that day actually came. But for some it never does.

So many people are emotionally addicted to FOOD, but did you know you can be emotionally addicted to clothes? I dont mean Shopaholics.  I mean the daily clothes we wear. Im not a shrink, but it was an interesting thought I had the other day so of course I had to look it up. Its the way we feel when we look at an item of clothing in our closet.

Maybe we wore that pink shirt and so many people complemented us on it and we like how it made us feel. So regardless of how small or big it is – we keep it because it is a constant reminder of how we felt in that moment, who would want to give that up? But just like eating food to fill the emotional void, we sometimes keep clothes to relive that moment. It is sometimes hard to toss that bridesmaids dress because maybe there was a cute guy/girl that flirted with you while you wore it and you want to hang on to that feeling.

Did you know that you can actually gain weight from holding on to these clothes? Sounds silly huh? But it is an emotional response that occurs in our bodies that releases the same hormones as food.

It is so much healthier for us to just toss out clothes and keep the memory in our minds and let the clothes go – Besides when you have room in your closet, you get to go shopping and buy things that look good on you NOW instead of in the future or the past.

So while it maybe scary at the time, it does feel good to just TOSS TOSS TOSS!

Id love to have this closet! So clean and organized!
